The first art event was sponsored by SpringHill Suites in Ballantyne. SpringHill is making a big effort in support of local artists. Yesterday I participated in the first Guerrilla Artist Group Fine Arts Festival in Mooresville – a beautiful day in combination with artists showing off their many talents. On October 8th I played at Atherton Market in support of Farmer Foodshare - all tips went to this great charity.  We give, we get… I got a lot of satisfaction in helping these great causes.

Radio and TV engaged us in the horrors occurring in New York and Washington. We in North Carolina fell to our knees in fright and awe as we watched as our countrymen fell to their deaths from the burning towers.

In the weeks after the attacks, I continued listening to the radio, wanting to hear as much as I could about how the people of New York were coping with the many tragedies. One day I was listening to an NPR reporter – a resident of Lower Manhattan – telling how life was regaining some sense of order. He described the scene as he looked out of his apartment window. Through the dusty and dark glass he could make out delivery trucks and workers on the street below his building. At that moment, I realized that it wasn’t just soot coating the reporter’s windows; it was the ash and dust of the souls who were sacrificed on September 11, 2001.

I struggled to make sense of what had happened. As is my custom, writing is a way I have of dealing with the complexities of life. The result and my catharsis, was my song Dust. Please listen – it is my gift to you. Please share my song with anyone you wish.

Kelley Morris is an artist and wine connoisseur and really cool, talented person. Her Art Gallery/Wine Shop is great and is totally worth visiting when in the area. A robust crowd was in attendance; I met locals, folks from Chicago and points in between.We had a really good time.

A good crowd streamed through all afternoon to sample very fine Muscadine wine. Cauble Creek and 2 other Rowan County Vineyards sponsored the Rowan Wine Tour. Cauble Creek was the only vineyard to offer live music. Next time they plan an event, make the short trip to Salisbury and see what a nice place it is.

In addition, I played several songs from my CD.  Jim Garrett, Bob Delano, Elizabeth Hareza, Chuck Johnson and Bill Miller: awesome local singer/songwriters and musicians. Bob shared his (brand new) congas with me and I was the percussion section for a while. I learned that Elizabeth Hareza and I have a Waxhaw connection……

Thanks to Dilworth Billiards for a great show last night – a very fine time was had by all.
